Artist Bio
Bill Weglietner was born and raised in the Dakota’s where he has spent countless hours traveling the back roads of the prairies and wetlands exploring the great outdoors. He recalls endless hours of his childhood spent tracking through the wooded areas surrounding the Missouri River Coteau, the same path that the great explorers Lewis and Clark took while on the epic expedition of 1805. Other special memories are the times spent at Boy Scout camps at Fort Mandan (near Bill's hometown of Washburn ND). Bill draws on those wonderful memories of his youth as inspiration for his paintings.
The artist also cherishes the time he has spent in the beloved Black Hills of South Dakota. The stories of the old west town of Deadwood, “The Gold Rush” and the pioneers that settled the western prairies are part of the flavor of western South Dakota. But Bill's fondness of nature and the great outdoors isn't limited to the Dakota’s. He has spent time in the Northern Rockies of Montana and Colorado in addition to trips to Canada near the Northwest territories many times. The Sierras, including Half Dome in Yosemite National Park and ElCapitan, captivate his imagination, too. The Redwood Forests and Yosemite Valley, where Albert Beirstat captured the essence of this profound area with his magnificent painting,s inspire Bill, too. His time spent abroad are instrumental to the shaping of his thoughts when he attempts to capture a moment in time and express that idea on canvas. PAINTING PROCESSBill’s paintings are all done using the finest oil paints and canvas available. When starting a new piece, whether it’s commissioned or otherwise, the artist uses reference materials and photos taken by the artist or given to him by his
client. The process of laying out the design begins with an idea and the next step which is roughing in the main focus on canvas. Bill will spend endless hours in this area trying to capture the essence of the subject followed by many hours on fine detail. Some paintings take months to complete while others take as little as a week. WEGLIETNER ARTWegleitner Art was established in 2010 although Bill has enjoyed sketching and drawing since he can remember.
Bill is proud to give back when and where he can to the local communities by offering prints for donation or proceeds from prints. |
Here are a few of the organizations Wegleitner Art has supported and will continue to support:
